In collaboration with Drs. Henrike Blumenfeld and Tracy Love, this project will test the mechanisms by which Spanish-English bilinguals accomplish word retrieval after stroke to the left hemisphere. Bilingual stroke patients with word-retrieval deficits face additional challenges of having to overcome cross-linguistic interference when they retrieve words as they speak.
Dr. Stephanie Riès-Cornou and colleagues will use a combination of behavioral, eye-tracking, and spatially-enhanced EEG to specify the temporal dynamics of word retrieval. Results of this research may provide treatment targets for future studies focused on enhancing recovery from word retrieval deficits in bilingual stroke patients.
