Ida Institute recently launched Ida Telecare, a suite of easy-to-use online tools and resources to help individuals with hearing loss prepare for appointments and manage everyday communication.
The platform addresses preparation for the first appointment, subsequent follow-ups, and everyday life with hearing loss.
The Living Well online tool, for example, prepares individuals for more productive and focused first or follow-up appointments by encouraging them to think about their needs and concerns before they arrive for their appointment. Open-ended questions create frameworks that allow clients to form a concept of their hearing loss within a variety of relevant personal, lifestyle, and work-related contexts.
My Turn to Talk is a drag-and-drop tool that lets users prioritize tasks by most important, very important, and less important but present on a regular basis. The tool also helps users sort through their thoughts, prompting them to begin sentences with, "I'm happy about…" "I hope…" and "I'm concerned about…" among others.
Notes and completed sessions can be downloaded and brought to the appointment or emailed in advance to assist the hearing health care professional in appointment preparation.
